Oh Florida You’ve Gone and Done it Again …

In light of the recent racist events that have occurred in the State of Florida I feel that I must vent my frustrations about the youth of America or I will not be able to sleep tonight. This evening I accidentally stumbled upon a YouTube video featuring two teenagers who attend Santaluces High School. The video features them speaking freely about black people and their sheer distaste for the way “they” act. This comes right off the trails of another video posted by two teenagers in Gainesville, FL who frequently use the “N” word and go off on a tangent about black people on welfare. I haven’t posted any links to the videos because I don’t feel that these ladies deserve to receive anymore “hits” from their disgusting behavior.

These videos have instilled fear in me because these teenagers will soon grow up to be women who will eventually breed more racist babies. I personally have never been one to feel outraged over anyone’s racist behavior and for some reason I’m enraged over these grotesque rants. More than anything I’m disgusted by the ignorance of it all. In the Gainesville video one of the girls cannot even muster up enough intelligence to remember the word “intelligible” and instead uses the word “eligible” creating even more confusion in her already unintelligible argument. She states that black people “don’t talk proper” and claims that she and her friend do. Her grammar, or lack there of, only further proves her ignorance, making her point moot.

I feel two things. The first being, I want to have children to teach them culture and respect for people that they do not understand. I want them to learn that all people feel and hurt and love. Seeing the color of someone’s skin is inevitable and I want them to know that it’s okay to be different and to love people who are different because it’s all apart of life. I want them to be strong individuals who will stand against hatred of all kinds and teach others how to love the way they’ve been taught to love.

My second feeling is that I never want to have kids. How can I look forward to raising a human being in a World where racist brats can say whatever comes to mind on the internet with no remorse and gain their 15 minutes? How will I know that they will not be influenced by the World around them and allow one negative experience to shape their way of thinking?

I fear for the youth of America not only because of it’s intolerance and ignorance, but for it’s lack of knowledge. These girls are not only racists, but incredibly stupid people. Their sentences are filled with “likes” and improper speech. They want to rant and rave about ignorant people and haven’t taken the time to improve themselves in any way. These girls represent the majority of people that I come into contact with in this state of Florida that I live in.

I can only hope that they have learned from this backlash and will turn this negativity into a positive way to help the community around them. Being a high school student is hard, but living in the real World is even more difficult and these little women will have to grow up very quickly from here on out. I wish them well and will pray that no harm comes to them because they will recount their story with the deepest regret from this point on and teach others what the power of ignorance can do.

A heart from Israel.
Dear Eric, I read your story on Beliefnet and loved it. I didn’t tell anyone about it, which is why the discovery of a heart while my daughter and I were making dinner was so amazing. It happened to be “Holocaust Day” in Israel, when we commemorate the six million Jews lost during the second world war. That Osama Bin Laden was sent for his final reckoning the eve of Holocaust Day (in Israel, special days start from the evening before) was very symbolic. I’d been having a bad day and was down in the dumps. My daughter, Daniella, was helping me prepare chicken shnitzel. All of a sudden, she exclaimed: “Mom, look — it’s a message from G-d.” And there it was — a piece of chicken shaped like a heart. I had to send you the photo and tell you the story. With love,Liane Shalev

“Men are not everything and we shouldn’t depend on them for our happiness or self-esteem. Soon enough we’ll have our own romantic comedy moment…which is really nothing like a romantic comedy because those aren’t real. We have careers and friendships to nurture in the meantime, because personally I’d like to have my life put together before I involve someone else in it. I get tired of reassuring my single friends along with myself that we’re fine, we’re normal, and we’re okay. So once and for all, let’s settle this argument in our heads: we’re fine, normal, and okay. So let’s just relax.”

I’m sure this could apply to single men too, but I wouldn’t really know, hahaha.

Because I’ve been slacking… I leave you with this photograph of Palm Beach, FL from a helicopter ride that I recently went on.

We seem to be happier in Florida than in most states. Why am I going to NY this weekend? JK I can’t wait!

Pulse of the Nation: U.S. Mood Throughout the Day inferred from Twitter (via amislove)

This video shows the mood in the U.S., as inferred using over 300 million tweets, over the course of the day. The maps are represented using density-preserving cartograms.

I found this video funny mostly because New Yorkers appear to be unhappy almost all the time. Sadness ensues!

No snow in Florida …

There are currently 49 out of 50 states in the U.S. that have reported snow (including Hawaii). There is no snow in Florida. Although, this may be inaccurate because if you go to City Place at a certain time in the evening they make it snow! It is currently 62 degrees in Palm Beach County and although that is not beach weather it sure does feel nice blowing through your hair. My regards to the 49 states out their that are freezing their asses off, I’ll be joining you next week!

Ready or not, here I come …

Mom and I are taking a trip to NY next weekend. I don’t care how cold it is up there either it’ll be such a good change from Florida and gives me a great subject to write about for this so-called travel blog that I run. I recently finished reading “New York” by Edward Rutherfurd, which is a historical fiction novel that begins in the 1600’s and ends in 2009. Needless to say the damn thing is pretty long, however, it is probably one of the best historical books that I’ve ever read and now I’m doubly excited to go and spread my knowledge to my mommy (lol). We will be arriving on January 20th. We have a few activities planned such as seeing La Cage Aux Folles and hitting up every museum that I can (yes because I’m a nerd). If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know!
